Navy Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon – Slide-On Ribbon
The Navy Presidential Unit Citation (PUC) Ribbon is a prestigious award recognizing extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy. Established by Executive Order 9050, signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 6, 1942, and promulgated by Navy Department General Order Number 187 on February 3, 1943, the award has been in effect since October 16, 1941.
This honor is presented in the name of the President to units of the U.S. Armed Forces and cobelligerent nations that have displayed unparalleled gallantry and determination in completing their mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions. The level of heroism required is equivalent to that necessary for an individual to receive the Navy Cross.
